Q:

Four thermal heaters A,B, C and D are used in the R & D department of Raliance chemicals Ltd. Only one heater can be used on any day . If heater A is used on any day, neither A nor C can be used the next day. If heater C is used on any day, neither C nor D can be used on the next day. If heater C is used on any day, then A has to be used the next day. If heater D is used on any day, then B has to be used the next day.

If heater D is used on the third day and different heaters are used on first and fourth day, which heater is used on the first day ?

   (1) D       (2) A       (3) B        (4) C

Answer

If heater D is used on the third day, heater B has to be used on the fourth day and A has to be used on the second day. But if A is used on second day, then either B or C has to be used on the first day. But if heater B is used on the first day, then according to the question, the requirement of having different heaters on the first day and fourth days would not be fulfilled. Hence the heater that would be used on the first day is C.

Q:

A group of men can complete a job in K hours. After every 4 hours, half the number of men working at that point of time leave the job. Continuing this way if the job is finished in 16 hours, what is the value of K ?

A) 7 hrs B) 7.5 hrs
C) 8 hrs D) 8.25 hrs

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 7.5 hrs

Explanation:

Let there are L men

job requires LK man hours.

job completed in first 4 hrs = L x 4 = 4L

job completed in next 4 hrs = 4 x L/2 = 2L

job completed in next 4 hrs = 4 x L/4 = L

job completed in last 4 hrs = 4 x L/8 = L/2

4L + 2L + L + L/2 = KL

K = 7+1/2 = 7.5 hours.

Q:

Two vessel P and Q contain milk and water in ratio 3 : 2 and 5 : 3 respectively. If 10 liters of the mixture is removed from vessels P and poured in vessel Q then ratio of milk to water in vessel Q becomes 8 : 5. Find the initial quantity of water in vessel Q.

A) 10 lit B) 6 lit
C) 16 lit D) 12 lit

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 10 lit

Explanation:

Given ratio of initial mixture of milk and water in Q = 5 : 3

Let the initial quantity of mixture in vessel Q = 8x

Let quantity of Milk = 5x and

Let quantity of water = 3x

According to the question,

5x + 10 x 353x + 10 x 25  = 85

=> 25x + 30 = 24x + 32

=> x = 2

Required Initial quantity of milk = 5x = 5 x 2 = 10 lit.

Q:

X can complete the work in 10 days, Y can do the same in 15 days. If they are hired for 5 days to do the work together, what is the work that left unfinished?

A) 1/3 B) 2/3
C) 1/6 D) 5/6

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 1/6

Explanation:

Given X can do in 10 days

=> 1 day work of X = 1/10

Y can do in 15 days

=> 1 day work of Y = 1/15

1day work of (X + Y) = 1/10 + 1/15 = 1/6

Given they are hired for 5 days

 => 5 days work of (X + Y) = 5 x 1/6 = 5/6

 Therefore, Unfinished work = 1 - 5/6 = 1/6

Q:

Which of the following is an Abiotic factor?

A) Plants B) Water
C) Consumers D) Animals

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) Water

Explanation:

Abiotic and biotic factors are what make up an ecosystem.

Abiotic factors are all nonliving components of an ecosystem. These factors include chemical and geological features such as water or lack of water, soil, rocks, and minerals. Other abiotic factors include physical components such as the temperature and weather affecting the ecosystem.

The biotic factors in an ecosystem include all living things. All plants, animals, fungi, protists, and bacteria within an ecosystem make up that system's biotic factors. The biotic factors can be broken down further into producers, consumers, and decomposers.

The biotic factors present in an ecosystem are highly dependent on the abiotic factors that are present. Even slight changes to either factor can have a major consequence upon the system as a whole.

Q:

Three taps I, J and K can fill a tank in 20,30and 40 minutes respectively. All the taps are opened simultaneously and after 5 minutes tap A was closed and then after 6 minutes tab B was closed .At the moment a leak developed which can empty the full tank in 70 minutes. What is the total time taken for the completely full ?

A) 24.315 minutes B) 26.166 minutes
C) 22.154 minutes D) 24 minutes

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 26.166 minutes

Explanation:

Upto first 5 minutes I, J and K will fill => 5[(1/20)+(1/30)+(1/40)] = 65/120

For next 6 minutes, J and K will fill => 6[(1/30)+(1/40)] = 42/120

So tank filled upto first 11 minutes = (65/120) + (42/120) = 107/120
So remaining tank = 13/120

Now at the moment filling with C and leakage @ 1/60 per minute= (1/40) - (1/70) = 3/280.
So time taken to fill remaining 13/120 tank =(13/120) /(3/280) = 91/6 minutes

Hence total time taken to completely fill the tank = 5 + 6 + 91/6 = 26.16 minutes.

88 cubic centimetres of silver is drawn into a wire 1 mm in diameter. The length of the wire in metres will be ?

A) 112 mts B) 84 mts
C) 96 mts D) 108 mts

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 84 mts

Explanation:

Vol of silver = πR2h  = 66 C.C

Given D= 1mm => R = D/2 = 1/20 cm

=> 227×1202×h = 66

= 66 x 400 x (7/22) = 8400 cm = 84 mtrs.
