Given that three athletes can complete one round around a circular field in 16, 24 and 36 min respectively.

Now, required time after which they met for the first time = LCM of (16, 24 & 36) min

Now, LCM of 16, 24, 36 = 144 minutes = 2 hrs 24 min.

Cp1 = p2 - p1 ,
Cp2 = p3 - p2

Sum of series = (p2-p1) + (p3-p2) + .....(p23-p22) + (p24-p23)
All terms get cancelled, except p1 = 2 and p24 = 89
So Sum = -p1 + p24
Sum of series = -2 + 89 = 87

Here given that 9 = 63, 8 = 48, 7=35, ... 

The given question follows a pattern that

9 x (9 - 2) = 9 x 7 = 63

8 x (8 - 2) = 8 x 6 = 48

7 x (7 - 2) = 7 x 5 = 35

Similarly, 4 x (4 - 2) = 4 x 2 = 8.

Compounding frequency :

The time periods when interest will be calculated on top of the original loan amount (or) The number of compounding periods in one year.

The greater the compounding frequency, the more often your interest is calculated and added back into your account.
