Q:

In what ratio must wheat at Rs. 3.20/kg be mixed with wheat at Rs. 2.90/kg so that the mixture be worth Rs. 3/kg?

A) 1:2 B) 3:2
C) 2:1 D) 2:3

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 2:1

Explanation:

Given rate of wheat at cheap = Rs. 2.90/kg

Rate of wheat at cost = Rs. 3.20/kg

Mixture rate = Rs. 3/kg

Ratio of mixture =

          2.90                              3.20

                              3

(3.20 - 3 = 0.20)            (3 - 2.90 = 0.10)

0.20 : 0.10 = 2:1

Hence, wheat at Rs. 3.20/kg be mixed with wheat at Rs. 2.90/kg in the ratio of 2:1, so that the mixture be worth Rs. 3/kg.

Q:

The ages of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha together are 57 years. Bharti is thrice as old as Anushka and Charu latha is 12 years older than Anushka. Then, the respective age of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha is ?

A) 27, 9, 21 B) 9, 21, 27
C) 21, 27, 9 D) 9, 27, 21

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 9, 27, 21

Explanation:

Let Anushka age = X
Charu latha 12 yrs older than Anushka so Charu latha age = x+12
Kajal is thrice as old as Anushka so Kajal age = 3x
The ages of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha together are 57 years
i.e x + (x+12) + 3x = 57
=> 5x = 45
:- x = 9
Anushka age = 9
Kajal age = 3x = 27
Charu latha age = x+12 = 21

Q:

A farmer divides his herd of k cows among his 4 sons, so that one son gets one half of the herd, the second gets one-fourth, the third gets one-fifth and the fourth gets 9 cows. Then k is equal to ?

A) 160 B) 120
C) 140 D) 180

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 180

Explanation:

Given total number of cows = k
Now, 1st son share = k/2
2nd son share = k/4
3rd son share = k/5
4th son share = 9

(k) + (k/4) + (k/5) + 9 = k
=> k - (19k/20) = 9
=> (20k-19k)/20 = 9
=> k = 180.

Q:

In measuring the sides of a rectangle, one side is taken 20% in excess and the other 10% in deficit. Find the error per cent in area calculated from the measurement ?

A) 8% excess B) 9% deficit
C) 12% excess D) 11% deficit

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 8% excess

Explanation:

Since  Area of Rectangle = side1 x side2
Therefore, error% in area
= x + y + xy100 %
= [20 - 10 + ( -10 x 20)/100]% or 8%
i.e. 8% excess.

Q:

The breadth of a rectangular field is 75% of its length. If perimeter of the field is 1050 m, what will be th area of field ?

A) 65700 sq.m B) 54500 sq.m
C) 78700 sq.m D) 67500 sq.m

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 67500 sq.m

Explanation:

Let the length be 'l' and breadth be 'b'.

b = l × 3/4__________(a)

2(l+b) = 1050

l+b = 525___________(b)

From equations (a) and (b),

l = 300m, b = 225 m

Area = l × b

= 300 × 225

= 67500 sq.m.

A) 25% B) 21.14%
C) 22.54% D) 27.32%

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 22.54%

Explanation:
