Q:

Present ages of Deepa and Hyma are in the ratio of 5:6 respectively. After four years, this ratio becomes 6: 7. What is the difference between their present ages?

A) 6 yrs B) 4 yrs
C) 8 yrs D) 2 yrs

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 4 yrs

Explanation:

Let the present age of Deepa = 5p

Let the present age of Hyma = 6p

After four years their ratio = 6 : 7

=> 5p + 46p + 4 = 67

=> 35p + 28 = 36p + 24

=> p = 4

Therefore, the difference between their ages = 24 - 20 = 4 years.

Q:

A train travelling at 48 kmph crosses another train, having half its length and travelling in opposite direction at 42 kmph, in 12 sec. It also covers a bridge in 45 sec. Find the length of the bridge ?

A) 250 mts B) 400 mts
C) 320 mts D) 390 mts

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 400 mts

Explanation:

Let the length of the 1st train = L mts

Speed of 1st train = 48 kmph

Now the length of the 2nd train = L/2 mts

Speed of 2nd train = 42 kmph

Let the length of the bridge = D mts

Distance = L + L/2 = 3L/2

Relative speed = 48 + 42 = 90 kmph = 90 x 5/18 = 25 m/s(opposite)

Time = 12 sec

=> 3L/2x25 = 12

=> L = 200 mts

Now it covers the bridge in 45 sec

=> distance = D + 200

Time = 45 sec

Speed = 48 x5/18 = 40/3 m/s

=> D + 200/(40/3) = 45

=> D = 600 - 200 = 400 mts

Hence, the length of the bridge = 400 mts.

Q:

On Rs. 3500 invested at a simple interest rate of 7 per cent per annum, Rs. 500 is obtained as interest in certain years. In order to earn Rs. 800 as interest on Rs. 4900 in the same number of years, what should be the rate of simple interest?

A) 8% B) 7.5%
C) 9% D) 8.5%

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 8%

Explanation:

From the given data,

3500x7xt/100 = 500

=> t = 100/49 years

Now, in the second case

The interest per year = 49/100 x 800 = 392

 => 4900 x 1 x r/100 = 392

=> r = 8%
