Nutrients that are needed in large amounts are called Macronutrients.

There are three macronutrients required by humans:

1. carbohydrates (sugar),

2. lipids (fats), and

3. proteins.

Each of these macronutrients provides energy in the form of calories.

Some other macronutrients are: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), sulfur (S), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na).

When heat energy is added to a substance, the temperature will change by a certain amount.

The relationship between heat energy and temperature is different for every material, and the specific heat is a value that describes how they relate.

Q = heat energy (Joules, J)

m = mass of a substance (kg)

c = specific heat (units J/kg∙K)

∆T = change in temperature (Kelvins, K)
