Quantitative Aptitude - Arithmetic Ability Questions

Q:

A alone can do a work in 20 days. B is 125% more efficient than A. A and B started working and worked for 4 days. If C alone completed the remaining job in 22 days. How many days C alone takes to complete the entire job?

A) 30 B) 35
C) 40 D) 42

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 40

Explanation:
A alone can do = 20days

Efficiency ratio of A & B= 4 : 5

Time required will be in ratio = 5:4

B alone will do it in =16 days

LCM of (16,20)= 80 ,

Assume work size of 80 units

1 day work of A= 4 units 1 day work of B= 5 units

Work done by both in 4 days= 4*(5+4)= 36 units

Work left= 80-36= 44 units

Now C takes 22 days to complete= 44 units.

Time taken by C alone to complete the work= 40 days

Q:

12 men complete a work in 14 days. 5 days after they had started working, 3 men join them. How many more days will all of them take to complete the remaining work?

A) 5 B) 4
C) 3 D) 2

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 3

Explanation:

Let p be the required number of days.

From the given data,

12 x 14 = 12 x 5 + (12+3) x p

12 x 14 = 12[5 + 3p]

14 = 5 + 3p

3p = 9

p = 3 days.

Hence, more 3 days all of them take to complete the remaining work.

Q:

A woman suffered 20% loss on first investment and made 10% profit at second investment and 12 ½% profit on the third investment. If the invested amount be in the ratio of 4 : 5 : 3, find her profit percentage?

A) 0.625% B) 1.205%
C) 0.987% D) 0%

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 0.625%

Explanation:

From the given data,

let the amounts invested be 4p, 5p and 3p

Net profit = Total profit - Total loss

= 10x5p/100 + 25x3p/200 - 20x4p/100

= 0.875p - 0.8p

= 0.075p

Therefore, profit% = (Net profit/Total investment) x 100

= 0.075 x 100/12

= 0.0625%

Q:

The ages of Sunil and Anil are in the ratio 8:7, after 6 years, the ratio of their ages will be 19 : 17. What is the difference in their present ages?

A) 10 years B) 6 years
C) 8 years D) 4 years

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 4 years

Explanation:

suppose the ages of Sunil and Anil are 8x yr and 7x yr, respectively.
After 6 yr, = 136x + 102 = 133x + 114
136x – 133x = 114 – 102
3x = 12 X = 12/3 = 4
Age of Sunil = 8x = 8 × 4 = 32 yr
Present age Anil = 7x = 7 × 4 = 28 yr
Required difference = (32 – 28) = 4 yr

A) 46 B) 44
C) 42 D) 40

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 46

Explanation:

Let the number of students = 100
