Q:

Maheshwari wants to buy 7 floors in an 68 storied building whose numbering stars from 1 upto 68. But she has to follow certain rules which are as follows :

1) None of the floor should be a prime number

2) None of the digit of the floor should be a prime number

3) Maheshwari cannot buy the 1st floor as it is being assigned to the architect.

So how many options are left with Maheshwari to buy the floors ?

A) 11 B) 17
C) 13 D) 19

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 17

Explanation:

Since floor starts form the 1 therefore 2 will be the 1st floor.
Form 1 to 10 only 4,6,8,9,10 are not prime.
Form 11 to 20 only 14 ,16,18 are not prime also non of their digits are prime.
From 21 to 30 each number has a prime number so it must no be consider.
In between 40 to 49 we have to consider only 40,44,46,48,49.
50 to 59 follow either of the condition so we have too neglect it.
In between 60 to 68 60,64,66,68.
total option = 17.

Q:

The ratio of the speed of Two trains is 5:8. Sum of their length is 660. The ratio of time taken to cross an Electric Pole by train A and B is 4:3. What is the difference between the length of two trains?

A) 50m B) 40m
C) 60m D) 45m

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 60m

Explanation:

Ans.
Given that length of first train + length of second train = 660
Speed of first train : Speed of second train = 5:8 =5x : 8x
Time taken to cross the poll by two trains = 4:3 =4y:3y
Now ,
(5x*4y) + (8x*3y) = 660
44xy = 660
xy = 15
L1 - L2 = 24xy -20xy = 4xy = 60 m

Q:

A alone can do a work in 20 days. B is 125% more efficient than A. A and B started working and worked for 4 days. If C alone completed the remaining job in 22 days. How many days C alone takes to complete the entire job?

A) 30 B) 35
C) 40 D) 42

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 40

Explanation:
A alone can do = 20days

Efficiency ratio of A & B= 4 : 5

Time required will be in ratio = 5:4

B alone will do it in =16 days

LCM of (16,20)= 80 ,

Assume work size of 80 units

1 day work of A= 4 units 1 day work of B= 5 units

Work done by both in 4 days= 4*(5+4)= 36 units

Work left= 80-36= 44 units

Now C takes 22 days to complete= 44 units.

Time taken by C alone to complete the work= 40 days

Q:

What is the probability that a couple with four children have atleast one girl?

A) 0.0625 B) 0.9375
C) 0.5 D) 0.0257

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 0.9375

Explanation:

Here,n = 4(children)

P(girl)= 0.5

P(of atleast one girl)= 1 - P(no girls)

                             = 1 - 0.0625 = 0.9375

Q:

How many 3-digit numbers can be formed with the digits 1,4,7,8 and 9 if the digits are not repeated ?

A) 60 B) 26
C) 50 D) 64

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 60

Explanation:

Three digit number will have unit’s, ten’s and hundred’s place.

Out of 5 given digits any one can take the unit’s place.

This can be done in 5 ways. ...              (i)

After filling the unit’s place, any of the four remaining digits can take the ten’s place.

This can be done in 4 ways. ...              (ii)

After filling in ten’s place, hundred’s place can be filled from any of the three remaining digits.

This can be done in 3 ways. ... (iii)

So,by counting principle, the number of 3 digit numbers = 5x 4 x 3 = 60

Q:

A train 150 m long is running with a speed of 68 km/h. In what time will it pass a man who is running at 8 km/ h in the same direction in which the train is going?

A) 8 sec B) 8.5 sec
C) 9 sec D) 9.5 sec

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 9 sec

Explanation:

Relative speed = 68-8 = 60 km/hr = 60 X 5 / 18 m/s = 50/3 m/s

Total distance = 150 m

Time taken to pass a man running in same direction = 150 X 3/50 = 9 seconds

Q:

Ali and Faizer are 27m apart. They both start walking and meet 9 hrs later, if they travel in the same direction and meet after 3 hrs if they walk in opposite dirction, Ali’s speed must most likely be ?

A) 9 m/h B) 3 m/h
C) 6 m/h D) 12 m/h

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 6 m/h

Explanation:

let, speed of Ali=X mph and Faizer=Y mph

Now, relative speed when Ali is walking int the same direction with Faizer= (X-Y)mph
hence, according to question, 27/(X-Y)=9 ; solving X-Y=3; --- (1)

Now relative speed when walking in the opposite direction= (X+Y) mph
hence, according to question, 27/(X+y)=3; solving X+Y=9; --- (2)

solving 1 and 2 we get X=6 and Y=3, where X is the speed of Ali.
