Quantitative Aptitude - Arithmetic Ability Questions

Q:

A is a working and B is sleeping partners in a business. A puts in Rs. 5000 and B puts in Rs.6000. A receives % of the profit for managing the business and the rest is divided in proportion to their capital. What does each get out of a profit of Rs. 880?

Answer

Total profit = Rs. 880

A's share for managing the business i.e

\inline 12\frac{1}{2} %  =  \inline \frac{25\times 880}{200}=Rs.110

Remaining profit of A and B as per their capital = 880 - 110 = Rs. 770

Ratio of amounts = 5000 : 6000 = 5 : 6

Sum of ratios = 5 + 6 = 11

A's share = \inline 770\times \frac{5}{11}= Rs.350

A's total share = 350 + 110 = Rs. 460

B's share = \inline 770\times \frac{6}{11}=Rs.420

A) 3/4 B) 7/8
C) 1/2 D) 1/4

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 7/8

Explanation:

Here S = {TTT, TTH, THT, HTT, THH, HTH, HHT, HHH}

Let E = event of getting at most two heads.

Then E = {TTT, TTH, THT, HTT, THH, HTH, HHT}.

Q:

In a 1 km race, A beats B by 28 meters in 7sec. Find A's time over the course?

A) 5min,4sec B) 4min,3sec
C) 2min,3sec D) 3min,4sec

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 4min,3sec

Explanation:

B covers 28 meters in 7sec. So, B's time over the course = (7/28)*100 =250 sec.

Whereas A's time over the course = 250 -7 = 243 sec.

i.e A's time over the course is 4min , 3 sec.

Q:

In the following number series only one number is wrong. Find out the wrong number ?

6, 15, 35, 63, 143, 221, 323

A) 143 B) 63
C) 323 D) 35

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 63

Explanation:

Here the series follows the pattern that, product of succesive prime numbers i.e,

 2 × 3 = 6

 3 × 5 = 15

 5 × 7 = 35

 7 × 11 = 77

 11 × 13 = 143

 13 × 17 = 221

 17 × 19 = 323

So here in place of 77 the number 63 is written.

So the wrong number is 63.
