Q:

What three statements make up the cell theory?

A) All living things are made up of cells. B) New cells come frome exisiting cells.
C) Cells are the basic unit of structure/function in living things. D) All of the above

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) All of the above

Explanation:

The three statements make up the cell theory are::

1. All living things are made up of cells.

2. Cells are the basic unit of structure/function in living things.

3. New cells come frome exisiting cells.

These cells can vary widely, but all living things are composed of cells.

Q:

What is the function of reverse transcriptase?

A) synthesis of RNA from protein B) synthesis of DNA from an RNA template
C) synthesis of protein from DNA D) synthesis of DNA from protein

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) synthesis of DNA from an RNA template

Explanation:

A reverse transcriptase (RT) is an enzyme used to generate complementary DNA (cDNA) from an RNA template by a process called Reverse Transcription.

In brief its function is that copies all or part of the virus RNA (retroviruses are RNA-only) as DNA which can then be integrated into the DNA of the host organism.

Q:

Which of the following is part of the axial skeleton?

A) Thigh bone B) Shoulder bones
C) Vertebral column D) Foot bones

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) Vertebral column

Explanation:

The axial skeleton is the part of the skeleton that consists of the bones of the head and trunk of a vertebrate. In the human skeleton, it consists of 80 bones and is composed of six parts; the skull bones, the ossicles of the middle ear, the hyoid bone, the rib cage, sternum and the vertebral column.

Bones of shoulder, thigh and foot are the part of appendicular skeleton.

Hence, Vertebral column is the part of axial skeleton.

Q:

Transcription occurs in the

A) DNA B) Cytoplasm
C) Chromosomes D) Nucleus

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) Nucleus

Explanation:

In the cell, transcription occurs in the nucleus in the presence of DNA.

transcription_and_translation1531457823.jpg image

Terms transcription and translation in biology are generally related to the DNA and its properties. Human cells replicate. In order to do that, they have to produce the same constituents for the new cell that is to be made. The only way to do that is by producing proteins.

The proteins are produced in the process that is called protein synthesis. The first step is in the nucleus where a particular gene is being expressed so it enables all protein factors to come and to replicate that part of a chromosome. This is finished when mRNA, the same single-stranded genetic code of a particular gene, is formed. This is transcription.

Right after that, the mRNA enters the cytoplasm through nuclear pores. There, it could be translated into proteins by ribosomes. This process is called translation.

Hence, Transcription occurs in the nucleus, whereas translation occurs in the cytoplasm.
